Day 52.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, may the words of our mouth, and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
John 14:15-31, upper room discourse, Part 4, Holy Spirit.
VV 15-18, 15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
Jesus will ask His Father to give His disciples, and us, the Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, Helper, Counsellor, and Advocate, after His glorification. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity, whom the world cannot accept.
VV 19-21, 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.
After Jesus’ glorification, the world will not see Him anymore but He will lives on eternally in His disciples and in us through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is in the Father, the Father is in Him , and He is in His disciples, and us. Whoever obeys Jesus loves Him, and Father loves those who love Him. Jesus loves those who love the Father and will reveal Himself to them.
VV 22-24, ”22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me”.
Judas, the son of James, (Luke 6:16, Acts 1: 13) or Thaddeus, (Matt 10:3, Mark 3:28) asked Jesus, why He only revealed Himself to them and not to the world. In reply, Jesus said, the Trinitarian God will make His home with anyone who loves Him and obey His teaching.
V 25-26, 25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
The Holy Spirit will be be our Advocate, Counsellor, and Teacher, and He will teach His disciples, and us, all the things that Jesus said.
VV 27-28, 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
The Hebrew word for peace is “shalom”. Jesus gave His disciples and us, “peace” that surpassed all understanding. John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. John 16:33 “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulations. But take heart; I have overcome the world”.
VV 29-31, 29 I have told you now before it happens so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.
Jesus prophesied all these to His disciples and us, before it happened so that when it happened, they and us, would believe. After this, they left the upper room and proceeded to the Garden of Gethsemane in the Mount of Olives.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending us the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, our Helper, Advocate, Counsellor, and Teacher, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
This is the third post of a relatively new feature here at Big Sky Buckeye. Every couple of months or so different snapshots about the Buckeye State of Ohio will be featured.
Ohio uses a number of nicknames. Many people have heard of the “Buckeye” state, but fewer know some of its other nicknames.
Declared by the U.S. Congress in 2003, Ohio is also known as the “Birthplace of Aviation.” Four noteworthy Ohioans have stood out for their individual contributions to American aviation.
Many people know of the inventive brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright (1867-1912 and 1871-1948). Growing up in Dayton, this tandem worked hard to earn a living from their bicycle business, but they were dreaming of more. Their ambitions credited them with inventing and flying the first aircraft in 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In winning a coin toss, Orville took the controls of the plane on…
