You’ll Be Stronger, Not Weaker – Love Worth Finding – November 19

You’ll Be Stronger, Not Weaker

Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10

What does Paul mean in this verse when he says he “takes pleasure” in all of these difficult circumstances? He’s saying that …

  • If his money were taken, he would end up with greater riches. His weakness becomes his strength.
  • When Paul was isolated and placed in solitary confinement, then Jesus was near. His weakness became his strength.
  • If they beat him and he hurt, then Paul had the fellowship of Christ’s suffering. His weakness became his strength.
  • If his body became crippled and he was no longer able to lean upon the arm of flesh, then Paul had to lean on the Everlasting Arms.

Paul took pleasure in these things, because their result was to make him stronger in the Lord.

God is waiting to make you strong. There is power in our suffering. Suffering is not going to hurt you; it is going to strengthen you.

The Cheddar Man

The Cheddar Man

Genesis 11: 8
“So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.”

Around the world, there are many examples of fossilized or semi-fossilized human remains. These are often referred to as “prehistoric,” but this is a word that should give any Biblically minded Christian pause. The word “history” refers to a time line of humanity, although, this already began with Adam, therefore there can be no prehistoric humans.

One of those old men from my country (England) is the “Cheddar Man.” Contrary to what you might expect, as far as we know, he didn’t eat a lot of cheese. His remains were found in Cheddar Gorge cave, in Somerset, England. The remains were originally discovered in 1903, and are dated, by evolutionary means, to about 10,000 years. Of course, this date does not fit in with the biblical calendar that we use as our absolute standard. The reason for the recent interest in the “Cheddar Man” is that DNA was extracted from one of his teeth, and the consequent genome determination told us that this early Briton had blue eyes, dark curly hair and dark skin.

Although, we attribute most of the fossils to sedimentation caused by the Flood, the majority of the human fossils found, we could suggest that they were formed after the Flood. In fact, those preserved semi-remains such as the “Cheddar Man” probably came from migrant refugees after the Tower of Babel incident, recorded in Genesis 11. Therefore, it is not a surprise to us, that this man had the dark skin, as the selection of lighter skin colors would only occur in later generations. Therefore, once again, the Bible has a better explanation than secular science.

Prayer: Lord, we love Your Word. We thank you for the new insight we get of our past, present and future on your pages. Amen.

What Will Make Heaven Great? – Powerpoint – November 19

What Will Make Heaven Great?

November 19

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?”

John 14:1-2

Years ago, I heard the testimony of an older man who was terminally ill and had only months left to live. I was struck as he said, “You know, when I was a little boy, I was afraid of heaven. To me, it was a million miles away.”

He went on, “Then, I had a little brother die. So heaven became a place where I knew somebody. And through the years as family and friends have passed on, heaven became less scary and seemed to be more of a home than even this world. My loved ones, my friends, and my Savior are waiting for me there.”

Many people I know have such an abstract view of heaven: spires, gold streets, and pearly gates. But the wonderful reality of heaven is that God’s people are there and most importantly, Jesus is there. How much better could it be?!

As you look forward to your eternal home, remember what makes heaven heaven: Jesus. He is your eternal hope and destiny if you’re in Him. Look forward to the day you’ll meet Him face to face and live your life today to lead others to that moment!

Titus 1

Paul instructs Titus to appoint spiritually qualified men to oversee the church ministry.

The Bible is an enormous book that is difficult to master. It contains nearly 1,000 pages of information, none of which is insignificant. While it is true that new Christians can read and study the Scriptures on their own and gain spiritual truths through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is highly unlikely that anyone can grow to a mature understanding of the Bible without relying on teachers who know more about the Bible than they do. Herein lies a danger: We may not know enough about the Bible to determine if what is being taught to us is accurate. Therefore it is important to align ourselves with a church that believes and teaches the Bible. This type of setting will help safeguard us from being led into error.

Thank the Lord that He warns us about the danger of falling away from Him, and praise Him that He safeguards the faithful:
O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory
(Psalm 63:1-2).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving. Now pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our sins
Into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19).

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
(Hebrews 9:27-28)

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
greater love for your family,
missionaries in North and South America,
your activities for the day.

Finally, offer this prayer to the Lord:
May the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Romans 15:5-6
